What's The Happs?

President and Founder of the Michael Wallaby Lucas Depreciation Society.

It’s Me! No, Really. It Is.

Welcome to the pixel palace of Richard E.D. Jones. I’m a science fiction/fantasy writer, with numerous stories to my credit, author of the non-fiction book A Dude’s Guide to Babies, lead writer for the parenting website A Dude's Guide to . . . Everything! and all-around words monkey under the starry sky.

Unfortunately, no. Not those stars. Mostly just the stars that everyone sees, but saying that let me put up one of my favorite pictures of all time.

I'm an award-winning former newspaper reporter. And, no, the award wasn’t because I finally quit. I served my time at the FLORIDA TODAY newspaper in Melbourne, FL, and the Ocala Star-Banner in, where else, Ocala, FL. Following that, I spent four years as the chief public relations flack for the University of Florida's College of Engineering, before retiring to raise my three sons while my wife works.

I began writing fiction because I wanted to get paid for writing things I made up and not get fired for it. Newspapers are funny that way.

My short story, The Mismatched Monster, placed in the top 10 finalist list for best horror short story in the 2004 Preditors and Editors Readers Poll. I'm in the middle of expanding that to novel length.

Currently, I’m working on revising my urban fantasy novel, Reptile Wisdom, a novel set in the universe of my CurseWerks stories. In addition, my YA science-fiction book, Reluctant Lightning, is with an agent even as I type.

Buzz, The Garbage Disposal That Walks Like A Dog, is my writing mascot. If he leaves my feet, it's to start snarfing up onto the keyboard.
Rugged good looks are a bit of an overstatement.

Showcasing my rugged good looks. I broke my nose on a cruise ship. I suffered a gastric bleed, lost half of my blood volume and kept fainting. One faint I put my face through the bathroom countertop. Hence the broken nose giving me said rugged good looks.
Grant Snider did this
Borrowed with glee, gratitude and giggles from Grant Snider. He's funny.
